Sonar6 values and respects the privacy of our customers. We take privacy and data protection matters very seriously.
As a New Zealand company, Sonar6 must comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 1993 (“the Act”) in relation to all personal information we collect.
The Act is recognised internationally as legislation that requires high standards of privacy and data protection. The Act is drafted in general accordance with the Recommendation of the Council of the OECD concerning guidelines governing the protection of privacy and trans-border flows of personal data. It sets out 12 information privacy principles, which guide how personal information can be collected, used, stored and disclosed.
Some of our key legal responsibilities under the Act are summarised below:
Collection of personal information
When we collect personal information directly from you, we must, as required by the Act, take reasonable steps to ensure that you are aware of –
- the fact that the information is being collected; and
- the purpose for which the information is being collected; and
- the intended recipients of the information.
Storage and security of personal information
We must ensure that your personal information is protected, by such security safeguards as it is reasonable in the circumstances to take, against -
- loss; and
- access, use, modification, or disclosure, except with our authority; and
- other misuse.
Use and disclosure of personal information
- If we hold personal information that was obtained in connection with one purpose we must not, except as permitted by the Act, use that information for any other purpose.
- If we hold personal information we must not, except as permitted by the Act, disclose the information to another person or body or agency.
Retention of personal information
We must not keep your personal information for longer than is required for the purposes for which the personal information may lawfully be used.
Accuracy of personal information
We must not use your personal information without taking such steps (if any) as are, in the circumstances, reasonable to ensure that, having regard to the purpose for which the information is proposed to be used, the information is accurate, up to date, complete, relevant, and not misleading.
