The demise of the Staff Meeting With Scones

Many businesses develop odd pieces to their culture… at Sonar6 we probably have some of the oddest. Example: the Staff Meeting With Scones (SMWS). Every second week we have a meeting of all of the Sonar6 Labs development team, and the HQ Sales and Marketing staff, at which one “volunteer” is responsible for cooking scones for everyone.

SaaS vs Cleantech Football.

Sonar6 challenged the neighbours to a game of soccer today at the local park. No goalkeepers, small field, small goals and 20 minute halves. Most of those that didn’t play came down to cheer, so it turned into a whole Auckland office outing. We share our office complex with a handful of green technology, and environmental consulting businesses, so we pretty much ended up SaaS vs Cleantech - sounds like a VC investment dilemma.

Pete Weaver (Sonar6 COO) and I were talking today about the death of Everest conqueror Sir Edmund Hillary, and trying to find a way to commemorate the passing of a person who many of us at Sonar6 admired. A company approach seemed trite so we have settled for a handful of my thoughts…
