What is Talent Science?
It is widely accepted that the businesses that will be most successful over the next decades will be those that do the best job of attracting, managing and retaining good people. Therefore, to prevail, businesses will need better tools for collecting and analysing people information. These tools will form the backbone of a new decision making discipline which we have called Talent Science.
Business processes that deal with important assets (like capital or customers) always have a sister discipline for decision making: Accounting handles individual transactions, whereas Finance deals with overall business health. Sales works with individual customers, whereas Marketing looks at the customer base as a whole. Think of Talent Science as the sister discipline of HR.
Finance and marketing both provide a helicopter view and predictability. Talent Science must do the same. The roadblocks to this goal form Sonar6's key areas of research and development:
Key Research and Development Areas
Base Data. Often the real information on people’s capabilities in a business is just in manager’s heads and it is too localized to be useful. Talent Science aims to instead get this information into a system in a comparable and searchable format.
Common Language. Show a sales chart and it is easy for everyone in the business to clearly understand what is happening, but when it comes to describing the state of the people asset most businesses revert to vague terms.Talent Science aims to establish a common language for describing people in organizations.
Complex System. The people asset of a business is a complex system. There are so many interactions going on that it sometimes seems impossible to predict what might happen next. Talent Science aims to apply system thinking in order to create predictability.
